Auch wenn ich mit dem Sound der E-Geige (akkustisches Instrument, abgenommen und verstärkt) nicht ganz so glücklich bin – diese hört man z.b. am Anfang – gefällt mir nicht nur das Stück Time is Running Out von Muse, sondern auch das Cover vom Streicherquartett The Section Quartet sehr gut.

Cellofourte ist bzw. war ein Celloquartett aus Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (USA). Im Video führen Sie ihr Stück “Combustion” vor, inkl. Klavierintro.
Wenn ich das richtig verstanden habe, hat sich die Band inzwischen leider getrennt. Der Celliste Tate ist inzwischen mit Skillet unterwegs, das verbleibende Trio aus Simon, Ben und Nicole hat unter dem Namen Cello Fury zusammen mit einem Schlagzeuger eine neue Band gegründet.

Drei Jahre nach “Worlds Collide” veröffentlichen Apocalyptica ihr mit Hochspannung erwartetes, siebtes Studioalbum “7th Symphony”. Der Großteil der Stücke wurde von Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens Of The Stoneage, Bad Religion u.a.) produziert, bei zwei Songs übernahm Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, Motörhead, Papa Roach etc.) die Regie. Als erste Single des Albums erscheint am 6. August mit “End Of Me” eine Zusammenarbeit mit Gavin Rossdale, bekannt als Bandleader der britischen Alternative-Rock-Band Bush. Neben dem Briten finden sich zahlreiche weitere musikalische Gäste im Tracklisting: so wirkte Slayer Schlagzeuger Dave Lombardo bei dem Song “2010″ mit, auf “Bring Them To Light” ist Joseph Duplantier, Sänger und Gitarrist der französischen Death-Metal-Band Gojira zu hören, “Broken Pieces” featured Flyleaf-Sängerin Lacey Sturm und Brent Smith (Shinedown) sang den Titel “Not Strong Enough” ein.
Am 30. Juli werden Apocalyptica die Songs des neuen Albums erstmals ihren deutschen Fans vorstellen: an diesem Tag steht der einzige Open-Air-Auftritt 2010 auf der Loreley Freilichtbühne in St. Goarshausen auf dem Programm. Einen Tag zuvor spielt die Band beim “Blue Balls” Festival in Luzern. Eine Deutschlandtour ist für den Herbst geplant.

FIRST SINGLE, “END OF ME”, FEATURING GAVIN ROSSDALEThree years after their last studio album, “Worlds Collide”, Finish band Apocalyptica is set to release its highly anticipated s…eventh studio album “7th Symphony”. The majority of the album was produced by Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens Of The Stoneage, Bad Religion etc.) with two other songs produced by Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, Motörhead, Papa Roach).
The first single, “End Of Me”, features Gavin Rossdale, best known as the vocalist of the British alternative rock band Bush. The album also features a number of other notable guest performances: Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo plays on “2010″, “Bring Them To Light” features Joseph Duplantier, singer and guitarist of the French death metal band Gojira, “Broken Pieces” is a cooperation with Flyleaf singer Lacey Sturm and “Not Strong Enough” is sung by Brent Smith (Shinedown).
Willy Ehmann, Senior Vice President Sony Music Domestic GSA, states: “We are very proud that Apocalyptica, one of the most innovative bands in the rock genre, is going to release its new album via Sony Music again – another of the band’s excellent albums, that will once again not only include classical Apocalyptica elements but also a host of most interesting collaborations.”
During their career, which began in 1996 with the release of the album “Plays Metallica By Four Cellos”, cellists Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, Perttu Kivilaakso and drummer Mikko Sirén have so far released six albums across seventy countries. The band have sold more than four million copies worldwide. The last two longplayers “Apocalyptica” (2005) and “Worlds Collide” (2007) made it into the Top Ten in most of the European album charts. On top of that, “Worlds Collide” also scored the band’s first entry into the US Billboard charts. Apocalyptica’s albums achieved Gold or Platinum status in virtually every European country.

Wer also in Deutschland oder der Schweiz Apocalyptica mit ihrem neuen Album 7th Symphony (erhältlich ab 23.8.2010) erleben möchte, kann das Ende Juli jeweils tun (siehe fettgedruckte Zeilen aus den Tourdaten oben). Die Welttournee 2010 wird noch viele weitere Stationen haben, die oben genannten sind aber schon alle bestätigt.

Das Cello Quartett Quattrocelli hat ein Arrangement für 4 Celli von der berühmten Western-Filmmusik The Magnificent Seven komponiert von E. Bernstein im Programm.

Yesterday von den Beatles ist ein Stück das eigentlich jeder kennt. In einem Arrangement für 4 Celli führt es das Anatolia Cello Quartett vor, bestehend aus den Cellisten Onur Senler, Gurhan Nuray, Yaz Irmak und Ibrahim Aydogdu.
Leider übersteuert die Tonspur einige Male deutlich, ich habe aber auch nach längerer Suche keine bessere Aufnahme gefunden. Trotzdem absolut sehens- und hörenswert!

Die legendäre Rock-Ballade Stairway to Heaven von Led Zeppelin habe ich einer Fassung für Cello Quartett gefunden.
Das Triple Door Cello Quartet, bestehend aus Joshua Roman, Walter Gray, Chuck Jacot und Roberta Downey hat dieses Stück am 17.2.2008 in Seattle vorgeführt:
Aus dem ersten Streicherquartett von Tchaikovsky hier der ruhige und ergreifende Satz Andante Cantabile vom Rastrelli Cello Quartett. Wunderschön umgesetzt für und mit 4 Celli!
In der BR Abendschau war das Rastrelli Cello Quartett zu Gast. Kira Kraftzoff, ein sehr sympathischer Cellist des Quartetts, erklärt in der Sendung kurz den Ursprung des Namens der Band und ab 2:55 spielen sie ein James Bond Medley.
Apocalyptica, ein modernes und bekanntes Cello-Quartett, darf hier natürlich auch nicht fehlen.
